First you should probably know a bit about me. My name is Skye Hisaki and I was born on April 26th, 1990 on Dragon Roost Island.

When I was 7 my father passed away in some accident... mother never talks about it.
This is my betrothed, Cloud. Don't worry, you'll learn more about him later.

This is my journal starting from a few days before I earned my wings!

April 24th, 2006.

Journal,

Only two more days until I get to see Valoo! A Rito's 16th birthday is the most important day of their lives. I will finally get my wings and be able to fly like the rest of my sisters. I hate being the youngest... I have everything already set for the day, what 'm going to wear, what I need to bring, etc, etc. Mother just gave me Father's old grapple hook for the journey. She always used to tell me stories of how they met. They were both on their way to see Valoo and earn their wings and as they traveled together they fell in love. Ah, if only such a thing could happen to me! I'm sure the grapple hook will come in handy for getting to the top of the mountain. I have to go now, mother is calling me.

Sincerely,
Skye

April 25th, 2006.

Dearest Journal,

Mother says I'm too excited for my own good, but I can't wait any longer! I really hope that I will be able to get some sleep tonight. I will definately need my strength for tomorrow. Speaking of strength, mother has been making me eat a lot of healthy food lately. It's disgusting! Sorry to cut it short, but I really should go to bed. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow!

”Wake up Skye! Today’s the big day!”

Skye grunted as she woke, then, realizing what day it was, jumped out of bed, threw on her clothes, grabbed her bag and was out the door in a flash. She didn't even acknowledge her mother knocking on her bedroom door. Today was the big day, she would go to see Valoo, earn her wings and become an adult in the tribe. She didn't stop running until she reached the main hall where the elder was waiting for her.

"Why good morning Skye! Are you ready to see the great god Valoo?" the elder asked. Skye simply nodded, as she couldn't speak, the smile on her face stretching from ear to ear. The elder then outstretched his hand to her. she took it and he led her out of the building and to the cliff.

When they reached the edge overlooking the ocean he told her, "After today you will be able to join the many other Rito and fly off to great adventures." He wished her luck and went back inside, but Skye did not follow. She jumped with excitement and sprinted to the other end of the island, eager to begin her journey. Once there, she began scaling walls and jumping crevices, following the path up the mountain.

After about twenty minutes, she heard a noise behind her. "Hey Skye! Wait up!" the voice called. She turned around to see a Rito boy not much older than herself standing behind her. Panting, he stretched out his hand saying, "My name's Cloud." She shook his hand shyly. He continued, "I'm going up to see Valoo too. Maybe we could go together? After all, it must be easier to scale the mountain with two people rather than one."

She shook his hand, introducing herself and asked, "Is it you're sixteenth birthday too?" Cloud simply sighed and looked up to the sky. "Actually, its my seventeenth. I never went last year, I actually chickened out..." Skye laughed and ran up the slope, with Cloud close behind.

Many times throughout the journey hey had childish squabbles over who should go first, who was better at this and who could do that, but they always ended up laughing about it. Eventually, they made it to the final door. Skye leaned closer to Cloud and grabbed his hand, whispering, "Do you think Valoo is right behind this door?" Cloud grinned and ran in front of her, opening the door for himself.

Inside was a grand chamber with dim torches lining the outside walls. Cloud took a couple of steps inside, each one distinctly echoing through the room. Skye's eyes darted around, waiting for something to jump out at her. Before Skye could shush him, Cloud yelled, "Anybody there?! His voice broke the silence of the room like a hot knife through butter, and something moved. He could not help but grin as Skye clinged to his arm.

All of a sudden, a huge dragon-like figure was in front of them. Their jaws dropped in amazement, for this creature before them was so obviously powerful it was almost overwhelming. He let out a large sigh.

"Ah, Skye Hisaki and Cloud Kazengan. I was wondering when you would show up..." he roared. his eyes shifted to Skye clinging to Cloud's arm. "...and quite aquainted you have become already I see," he continued.

Neither one spone, and the silence was much appreciated by Valoo, as he kept speaking. "I have seen great things for you two," he said. "You shall both be partners and Rito Knights. This island will be amazed at these great, nay the best knights that Dragon Roost has ever seen!" His booming voice echoed throughout the chamber.

Skye let go of Cloud's arm and took a few steps forward. "Excuse me sir," she mumbled quietly, "but we, or namely I, couldn't possibly be a knight. I have no skills in that manner." She looked up to Valoo, waiting for her question to be answered.

Valoo seemed distraught when he heard this. "No skills? No skills?! Then why would I say that you would be knights? Am I incapable of seeing true potential?!" Skye cringed as he yelled, her eyes back on the floor.

Suddenly, Valoo's face became calm once again. "You shall be knights." he repeated. He waved a giant clawed hand over their heads and wings appeared on their sides. "Now go!" he yelled.

Both Rito turned to leave clasping hands once again, when Valoo stopped them saying, "oh and one more thing..." Cloud turned back around, eager to hear that Valoo had to say. Skye did the same, although not quite as excitedly. Valoo had stopped speaking, simply staring in content at the two young knights.

"Look at you two," he said wholeheartedly. ""Skye Hisaki and Cloud Kazengan, you two shall be married. What better way to have your partner's back in battle than to have your heart on the line as well..." The Rito could not keep the look of shock off their faces.

"Now you two may go," he concluded. "and be merry, for today you have earned your wings!" With that, Valoo was gone.

Skye was still staring as Cloud laughed. He took her hand once again and spun her around, causing her to snap out of her trance and laugh too. She did a little spin to show off her new wings before saying, "Come on! I can't wait to tell mother about this!" Cloud's laughing ceased suddenly, earning him a questioning glance from Skye, but he grabbed her outstreched hand and followed anyway. Together they left off the mountainside and flew back towards home.

Back at the hall, everyone was waiting patiently for the two young rito to return, eager to hear their stories. They could hear laughter as two winged figures appeared flying down the side of the mountain. Skye and Cloud landed and ran inside holding hands, pulling eachother as they went. Skye ran right to her mother, but Cloud stayed behind to talk to the elder.

The chatter in the hall was overpowering. The elder had to silence everyone and call Skye back over, then he asked, "What did Valoo tell you both?" Skye was the first to answer. "He said that we are to train and become the best Rito Knights on the island!" she rambled.

At this, the hall roared in commotion once again. It seemed as if everyone in the entire tribe was there and talking at once.

"Silence!" the elder shouted again. He smiled the biggest smile either of them had ever seen. "This is perfect!" he said, outstreching his hands to the crowd. "Today the great god Valoo has given us a new pair of Rito knighs!" Both kids smiled as he pushed them closer together.

Cloud leaned over to Skye and said "Should we tell them the other part?" Overhearing this statement, the elder asked what the other part was, once again silencing the crowd. Cloud leaned over and whispered in his ear. The elder raised his eyebrows at the statement and his big smile seemed to grow tenfold.

"Prepare a celebration! For not only shall these two be partners in battle, but the great Valoo has foretold that they will be partners in life as well!" The hall erupted in applause and cheering, but all Skye and Cloud could do was laugh.

((me thanks you Joey =3 ))

April 26th, 2006

Journal,

I cannot possibly express my happiness in words! Not only did I earn my wings, but I am now betrothed to the ever so handsome Cloud Kazengan! The elder said that I would start training with him tomorrow. Speaking of Cloud, I wonder why he didn't run to his parents after the journey to Valoo today? I must remember to ask him sometime. Well, I had better go to bed, though I doubt I will be able to get even a wink of sleep.

"Hurry up slowpoke!" yelled Cloud, knocking frantically on Skye's front door. Skye answered, and realizing who it was, smiled and ran out the door toward the arena with Cloud close behind. When they arrived, the elder greeted them and brought them over to a large shelf of weapons. "These, he began, "are hand-crafted by the Rito people. You may choose whatever one you desire." He reached out with one hand to display the shelf of weapons. Skye's eyes lit up as she scanned the shelf, finally deciding on a set of daggers. Cloud looked at the wide array in question, unable to decide which to choose. The elder waited patiently as he decided on a quarterstaff and walked over to the energetic Skye. Laughing, she stopped running about as they came over.

When they had calmed down, the elder said, "Like any other Rito, you shall have your bow and arrow, but only Rito knights are able to wield weapons such as these." He turned to Skye and said, "daggers, a fine choice. They are ideal for agility." Then he turned to Cloud and his quarterstaff saying to himself, "How did I know you would pick that?" He smiled at Cloud and said to him, "A gentle weapon for a gentle heart. The quarterstaff is not used for bloodshed, but for incapacitating foes. A fine choice for you. "

Skye cut in, asking, "So who is going to train us?" The elder let out a small chuckle. "I am! he yelled, picking up a wooden sword from the shelf. Then two rookies exchanged a questioning glance. "Don't worry, he added confidently, "I won't hurt you too badly."

Dearest journal,

Tomorrow is the final test for both Cloud and I in order to become a full Rito Knight! We have both worked very hard and can't wait to be out in real situations. The last few months have been rough I admit, but I think we can both pull through. In fact, I may even be a better fighter than him! Ah diary, just thinking about him makes me smile. The elder has not yet set a date for us to be wed, maybe he is waiting until after we become knights? It doesn't matter to me, I will wait as long as it takes! ((Believe it!)) Mother is telling me to get some sleep. I will be sure to write all about it tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Skye
